We first met David in 2019 when he was touring with James Bay and we fell in love with his iconic voice and guitar playing.

We reconnected with DRH in May 2022 while he was in Toronto with John Mayer. We had a great hang at the Frank Brothers shop and started the conversation about what a custom guitar might look like for David’s touring needs. David fell in love with a Signature Model with Lollar Charlie Christians that we had just completed, so that started as the foundation of his first Frank Brothers.

After lots of discussion, we landed on a Mahogany body & neck, Macassar Ebony fretboard, MojoAxe Wrap Bridge, a Piano Black top with Walnut toned back, neck, and sides, a Light Relic Nitro topcoat, dots inlays, and a gold back-painted acrylic pickguard.

With that guitar completed in January 2023, it began its journey touring North America with David and Scary Pockets.

Almost immediately, David came to us with a challenge to build a second guitar that would be capable of replacing his ES 330 for his solo shows. It needed to have the same acoustic presence and airiness while also not suffering from the feedback that often plagues hollow body guitars. After lots more discussion over facetime, we decided on a Mahogany Ultra Light with a twist. We replaced the center block with solid Spruce rather than the traditional Mahogany or Maple center block that you would find in our standard Ultra Light or in an ES 335.

The lighter weight and density of the Spruce center block contributes to an extra liveliness and acoustic voice while also blocking unwanted feedback. His new Ultra Light features our proprietary Floating Tailpiece, a mahogany body with spruce center block, a mahogany neck, Lollar Low Wind Imperial Humbuckers (later updated to Mullinax “Oh, Salvation” P-90 pickups) , the “Frank Brothers” Script Logo, Small Block inlays, and a Faded Pelham Blue top with Walnut toned back neck, and sides.

David is currently touring Europe with Scary Pockets and his Frank Brothers Spruce Core Ultra Light. Check out David's website below or visit the Scary Pockets website for info on tour dates.
